Smart overview of the Invention

The double-sided display device comprises a transparent self-luminous display panel, a switching panel, and a projection device. The transparent display panel features a light-emitting side and an opposite backside. Positioned on the backside, the switching panel consists of a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between two electrodes, allowing it to alternate between scattering and transparent states. The projection device is designed to project images onto the light-emitting side of the display panel.

Applications

This technology is particularly useful in advertising, shop displays, exhibitions, and museums. Double-sided displays can showcase advertisements in multiple directions, increasing visibility and engagement. In retail settings, they can present product information and promotions effectively. Museums and exhibitions benefit from displaying diverse information to provide comprehensive visitor experiences.

Functional Modes

The device supports various operational modes based on the state of its components:

  • Transparent Mode: Both display panel and projection device are off; switching panel is transparent.
  • Shielding Mode: Both display panel and projection device are off; switching panel is scattering.
  • Augmented Reality Mode: Display panel is on; projection device is off; switching panel is transparent.
  • Single-Sided Display Mode: Display panel is on; projection device is off; switching panel is scattering.
  • Double-Sided Display Mode: Both display panel and projection device are on; switching panel is scattering.

Technical Details

The switching panel controls liquid crystal molecules using an electric field generated by the electrodes, altering its haze and transmittance. In the scattering state, it exhibits high haze and low transmittance; in the transparent state, it has low haze and high transmittance. Optional outer transparent covers can be made from materials like glass or organic polymers to enhance image quality by minimizing interference from the switching panel.

Projection Mechanism

The projection device directs light toward the light-emitting side of the display panel without overlapping it, ensuring unobstructed image display. This setup allows for varied operational configurations to meet diverse application requirements while maintaining image clarity and brightness.
