This patent application details a system and method for connecting different computer-simulated environments, commonly known as metaverses. The system enables a user to initiate a presence in a first metaverse environment, which correlates physical stimulations with virtual stimuli within that environment. A virtual interconnection is then established between the first and a second metaverse environment, allowing for interactions and adjusted stimuli in response to these interactions.
Metaverses are immersive virtual environments where users interact through avatars. These environments are typically isolated instances provided by different service providers, lacking inherent interaction capabilities across different metaverses. The development of such virtual worlds has been advanced by companies like Second Life, utilizing technologies such as VRML and X3D for 3D graphics representation. Web APIs like WebXR Device API facilitate access to virtual reality devices within web browsers.
The system includes a processing system with a processor and memory storing executable instructions to perform operations such as establishing a presence in a first metaverse and creating a virtual interconnection with a second metaverse. This allows for virtual interactions between the two environments, resulting in adjusted stimuli in the first environment based on these interactions. The presence is modified according to correlations between physical stimulations and these adjusted stimuli.
The disclosed systems and methods enable connectivity between multiple independent virtual environments through what is described as a World-Wide Virtual Web (WWVW). This infrastructure facilitates routing virtual content and connecting different metaverse environments. For instance, interconnecting a snow cave environment with a tropical forest environment can result in shared environmental conditions, such as temperature variations near an interconnected portal.
Users can engage in real-time or near real-time interactions between independent metaverses, potentially hosted by different providers with varying operational rules. These interactions may include teleportation of virtual entities like holograms from one environment to another, allowing for dynamic engagement with objects and conditions across different virtual spaces without prior coordination, aside from necessary authentication.
