The described technology focuses on generating a comprehensive event explanation by integrating content from various sources about a single event. It employs a natural language processing (NLP) system to analyze diverse materials such as online news, reference content, and social media. The event explanation is organized into three tiers: a summary, a detailed explanation, and access to full articles. This structure ensures a multi-faceted understanding of events, catering to different reader interests.
The explanation begins with an event summary, which includes a headline, key points, and an image. This summary is designed for display on digital platforms, providing a quick overview. The main event explanation, the second tier, delves deeper into specific interests related to the event, offering sections that may include quotes or summaries generated by large language models (LLMs). The third tier allows users to access the complete articles for more in-depth information.
The NLP system automatically generates the consolidated event explanation from a content store comprising diverse materials. This system identifies semantically similar articles to form clusters, which are then analyzed to determine the events they describe. The goal is to create explanations that provide a comprehensive view by highlighting different reader interests and perspectives.
To ensure diverse perspectives, the technology uses an interest expansion approach. It identifies potential interests from a reader interest matrix and uses LLMs to generate queries that retrieve additional articles. These articles are added to the initial cluster to form an expanded article cluster, which is used to generate a more complete event explanation.
Once generated, the consolidated event explanation can be presented to users with potential interest in the event. This method enhances the news consumption experience by providing a tailored and engaging overview of events, allowing users to explore different aspects and perspectives as per their interests.
